CHARLOTTE, NC -- Charlotte's annual MLK Holiday Parade took place on Saturday, January 18, 2014. The parade marched down Tryon Street, beginning at 10th Street and ended at Stonewall. Over 90 community organizations, marching bands, and step and drill teams participated. Highlights included floats with the student winners of the CMS MLK Art and Writing Contests, local performance group and "America's Got Talent" quarter finalist Inspire the Fire, and "The Band" Marching Unit, an award-winning group from Baltimore, Maryland. Amanda McCoy, the 2013 Miss Black USA, also appeared. The parade Grand Marshals were Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon and Darrell "Bubba" Wallace, Jr., the first African-American to win in a NASCAR national series since 1963.
