CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A US Airways flight was detained at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Monday afternoon after a suspicious note was found on board.

Officials from Charlotte Douglas International Airport say US Airways flight 2045 from Buffalo, New York, was detained on the airfield after the discovery of a suspicious note on board the aircraft.

A US Airways spokesperson tells NBC Charlotte the plane landed safely at CLT at 1:40 Monday afternoon, after the crew reported a safety concern.

The flight was taxied to a remote area, away from the terminal, where it was met by law enforcement.

There were 124 passengers and a five crew members aboard the Airbus A319 aircraft, authorities say.

Passengers were initially unloaded to be taken by bus back to the terminal. As of 2:51 p.m., the buses remained with the detained plane. At 2:56 p.m., the passengers were observed from AirStar being loaded back onto the plane.

Officials notified NBC Charlotte at 3:04 p.m. that the plane has been cleared and will go to a gate for the passengers to deplane.

The FBI is on scene. The FBI Public Affairs Specialist tells NBC Charlotte that it's standard operating procedure for the FBI to respond, as their jurisdiction includes investigating any criminal activity onboard an airplane once the doors are shut.

After conducting several interviews, authorities say there is no indication there was a threat to public safety.

The FBI tells NBC Charlotte that although the investigation is ongoing, as of now it does not appear a federal violation was committed.

Airport officials say there is no operational impact to the airport.

Airport personnel is working to accommodate customers who may have missed connecting flights.

The detained plane was scheduled to depart CLT for New Orleans at 2:50.
