COLUMBIA, S.C. – Dozens of protestors called for South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford’s resignation or impeachment.
The signs and speeches took place Thursday night on the north lawn of the Capitol.
"It's time to hear from the people,” said protestor Marilyn Hemingway.
And, they've got a lot to say about Sanford including: You lied to us; you ditched your security detail;
your staff didn't know how to get in touch with you in case of emergency during a six-day secret getaway; the Appalachian Trial isn't Argentina; tou cheated on your wife, then continued to say the "other woman" is your true love.
"I'm not concerned about who he's doing, I'm concerned about him not doing his job,” said protestor Delaine Simmons.
That job is running the state, protecting the people and upholding the Palmetto state's constitution.
It's not, protestors say, a six-day mystery trip. That's why they want his resignation or an impeachment.
Hemingway is a Democrat. "What else is going to come up? What else are we going to have to deal with?"
Delaine Simmons is a Republican. "His word is no good. I was raised on old-fashioned morals. You're only as good as your word. His word is no good anymore."
Protestors say if Sanford doesn't resign, his credibility is shot doing the people's business for the next year and a half until his term ends.
"I don't know why anyone would take him at face value anymore? He's continually not told the truth until confronted with the truth and then he admits the truth that's already out there,” said Phil Noble, President of the South Carolina New Democrats.
Sanford has already said he won't resign, but will work every day to regain people's trust.
State republicans already voted to censure him, not impeach him.
