BERLIN (AP) — German authorities have arrested a man suspected of trying to obtain information on military technology for a Pakistani intelligence agency.
The Federal Prosecutor's Office said Thursday the 28-year-old Pakistani citizen, identified only as Umar R. because of German privacy rules, was arrested Wednesday in the northern city of Bremen.
Prosecutors said in a statement he's suspected of working for Pakistani intelligence since at least October. They say that he worked as a student assistant at a research facility and is alleged to have tried to obtain information on technology that could be used for military purposes.
A judge has ordered the man kept in custody pending formal charges.
