Friends and family gathered Tuesday to remember the life of a teen killed on a charity bike ride over the weekend.

Beginning at 10:0 a.m., dozens of teenagers could be seen walking into St. Gabriel Church for the funeral mass of 15 year old Rachel Giblin. It was clearly a tough time for the younger community as well as adults who tell 6NEWS they were simply touched by her smile.

Rachel Giblin was helping others in their battle with Multiple Sclerosis when she died. Giblin and her family were taking part in the annual MS Bike Tour this past weekend. She was riding on a tandem bike with her older brother when they were both hit by a truck. Giblin died at the hospital, her brother suffered injuries as well as their mother who was riding behind her children.

Friends and family said Giblin had a passion for tennis and animals, especially her horses. Her life long dream was to become a veterinarian, a reason why she volunteered for Friends of Feral Felines. Lisa Steffy works with the organization and remembers the kind of passion she saw in Rachel.

“When Rachel smiled, she lit up the world. You could see the passion in her, especially for animals. At 15 years old, she would put on the gloves and not ask any questions. She groomed the cats when they needed grooming. She jumped right in there like she was one of the adults. It’s rare to find a person that would give up their time they way she did and helped in the way she did”, said Steffy with Friends of Feral Felines.

There will be a private gathering at the Morrison Family YMCA following the funeral. Donations can be made in Rachel Giblins name to the Morrison Family YMCA in Ballantyne.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol who is investigating the accident says they hope to have a completed report by Thursday. That is when they will decide if they driver of that truck will face charges.
