Charlotte might break record high temps today

12:06 PM EST on Wednesday, January 5, 2005

By JOHN WENDEL / 6NEWS Meteorologist

The mild weather just keeps coming and coming for the Carolinas.

Tuesday’s high temperature was 74 degrees missing the record of 75. Record high temperatures where set in Asheville NC., Greensboro NC., and Charleston SC., where the mercury hit 77.

We might break the record Wednesday as the forecasted high temperature is 72 and the record is also 72.

The storm track remains from California to Oklahoma and then into the Ohio River Valley. This means the snow will fall in the Midwest and flooding rains will occur in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.

With the storm track to our west the mild weather should continue through Thursday when a weak cool front moves in. The clouds and showers with the front will bring temperatures back into the 50s for highs by Friday and the weekend.

If you like snow, don’t give up on winter yet. Last year’s big snow came at the end of February.

Also, during the winter of 1960 there was only 1-2 inches of snow through February. During March of that year more than 19 inches of snow fell. Some of our biggest snowstorms have come after warm weather.
