Letter to let johns know they've been caught

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Shocking mail will soon pop up in Charlotte mailboxes in connection with the breakup of a high priced prostitution ring.

When we say the men have been caught, we mean they have been caught on tape. Now Uncle Sam is about to let them know and if the men haven’t been picking up the mail, they might want to start.

The letter is what most men would not want their wife to see.

The women were beautiful, and most of the men who wanted to spend some time with them had to place a phone call. What they didn’t know at the time is that government agents were taping those calls.

"We may be talking about thousands of men, and maybe even some women who called in,” said Lyle Yurko, defense attorney.

Each one of those men and women will soon get a little surprise from the federal government; consider it the ultimate Dear John letter. By law, the feds must notify anyone caught on those wiretaps.

"Everybody who called in, everybody that means the cleaning lady, her calls were intercepted and she's got to be notified,” Yurko explained.

Yurko is a prominent defense attorney. He says he's only seen a handful of cases where the clearance was given to wiretap.

Donald and Sallie Saxon have pleaded guilty to running a lucrative high end prostitution ring. Their clients were C.E.O.'s and other business leaders. The wire taps occurred for several months while this investigation was taking place. Now those businessmen may be in line to get a first class letter or certified mail from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

"If the spouse opens it, it may not be a happy day for the customer,” Yurko said.

Yurko says that anyone who gets one of those letters should get an attorney, and do it quickly. “Don’t sit with your head in the ground like an ostrich, because that leaves your backside exposed,” he said.

The US Attorney’s Office has declined to comment on the matter; so we don’t know when the letters will be mailed out. In addition to defense attorneys getting busy, there may be some divorce lawyers who get some calls as well.
