Family friend makes shocking discovery

Concord police released this photo of the victim's truck in hopes that someone may have seen the vehicle.
CONCORD, NC -- Detectives in Concord are waiting on the results of an autopsy after a family friend discovered a 77-year-old man’s body in his home Monday.
The investigation started at the home of John Wade Huneycutt on Park Drive in Concord and one of the biggest clues in the case was found miles away.
Hours before the friend found Huneycutt’s body, police found his truck on Flowe Store Road, near the Flowe Store. The store is about 12 miles from where Huneycutt lived.
Huneycutt’s body was discovered a little after midnight Monday. His death has been ruled suspicious, but investigators can’t say how or why Huneycutt died.
The biggest clue in the case could be his white Chevy truck found abandoned.
“We’d like to know where it was seen, who they saw in it, anything of that nature,” said Guy Smith, Concord Police Department.
Few neighbors knew Huneycutt well. He had two sons and one used to live with him. Neighbors said Huneycutt used to work at a school for troubled kids just down the road.
“(The area) is very, very quiet. Probably the best section of Concord,” one neighbor said.
Police spent the day Monday taking pictures as evidence and marking the scene. One thing they didn’t leave behind was an explanation.
Police said they have no suspects or persons of interest in the case. They interviewed the woman who found the body and they interviewed both of the victim’s grown sons. Right now police said they are interviewing everyone they can talk to for clues in Huneycutt’s death.
Huneycutt’s vehicle is a 2002 White Chevrolet Silverado, with a white camper shell. The license tag is BSL 942. Concord Police Detectives are asking anyone who may have seen the vehicle and anyone who was occupying it to call the Concord Police Department at 704-920-5055.
