Superdelegates could play decisive role in election 7:12 AM

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- It's a VIP. It’s a powerful voter. It’s a superdelegate from Statesville.
"No, I’m not feeling super,” said lawyer David Parker. “I told someone, 'This is Andy Warhol’s 15 minutes of fame.’”
Parker is one of 17 North Carolina Democratic superdelegates. They're local activists, congressional representatives, former presidents and party insiders. Now, for the first time in a long time, superdelegates might end up choosing the Democratic presidential nominee.
"In the old days, you might have the governor kind of reach down in a Democratic state and say, 'Well, this is who I want to be my guy.' Those days are gone,” Parker added.
August’s Democratic national convention will be his seventh.
"I can vote any way I want to up to the moment I cast my vote in Denver," said Parker.
Even though Barack Obama has leaped ahead of Hillary Clinton in the number of delegates won during primaries, it's possible neither will get a majority to win the nomination before the convention. Seven hundred ninety five superdelegates nationwide could tip the balance.
"The object of the nominating process is to pick a winning candidate in the fall. That's the game," added Parker. “I’m interested in who will do well in North Carolina. I’m interested in who will make a president that this country needs so that people can jobs, have health care; so that we can have a sensible solution in Iraq.”
Superdelegates like Parker are hearing from political players asking for their pledge.
"Hi Mr. Parker, this is Chelsea Clinton,” Parker played from his voicemail. “I just wanted to talk to you about my mom and her campaign."
“Unfortunately when she left her call back number, she dropped the last two numbers so I couldn’t call her back. I would have,” Parker said.
Either way, Parker hasn't committed.
The Democrat and Republican North Carolina primaries are May 6.
