Worker airlifted to hospital after construction accident

The worker fell into the back patio area of the home.

A worker fell about 40 feet at a construction site in the Ballantyne area Monday morning.

The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. in a new subdivision on Community House School Road at a home under construction.

According to witnesses, the victim was installing siding just below the roof and fell into what will eventually be the back patio of the home. He suffered serious head injuries.

Charlotte firefighters used a rescue basket to secure the victim at the construction site and then took him across the street to a landing zone where he was transported by MedCenter Air to Carolinas Medical Center. The victim has life-threatening injuries.

Grimmer-Kempf & Associates is the contractor of the home. The victim is a sub-contractor.

OSHA investigators were called to the scene to investigate.
