DAVIDSON, N.C. -- It's every little boy's dream -- growing up to be a famous basketball star. For the Curry family, that dream has been realized not once, but now twice.

Dad Dell was a big time NBA player. Eldest son, Stephen, the darling of the national press this week.

"I really can't put into words how cool it is to wake up in the morning and turn on ESPN like I do everyday and see your name on the tab,” Stephen Curry said with a massive smile across his face.

"I think Stephen is a product of being around the NBA and being around crowds and coming out on the floor before games started and shooting with everybody… just being around the pressure situation he saw me in with the Hornets," proud father Dell explained.

Even Mom and Dad admit when Stephen left Charlotte Christian for Davidson two years ago, they had no idea then what the future would hold.

"When I watch him, I’m so impressed with how mature he is," Sonya Curry said. “To be able to take in that moment and take what’s being given to you and try to capitalize on that, that’s what I see in him.”

We caught up with the Curry’s just a day before Davidson heads back out of town to face Wisconsin in the NCAA Sweet 16. Father and son casually played a game of one-on-one. The fanfare around them, at least for this half hour, was no comparison to the special bond they’ve always shared.

"He handles the ball so much better than I ever did. Defensively, he’s quicker... especially in a one on one situation,” Dell readily admits. "He wears me down!"

He’s so good, some wonder if Curry might leave for the pros.

"That's a big debate in our household," Sonya Curry said, laughing.

Ultimately, the decision will be Stephen’s to make, his parents say. This year’s already ruled out -- but after that, who knows?

"He loves Davidson College. He loves the college atmosphere and to go to the next level you must be not only gifted, but it’s harder emotionally as well because it's a different ballgame," Dell cautioned.

And he certainly should know.
