Wanted: David Cousart

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man police have seen grow up in mug shots is now wanted for a violent home invasion.

Police say they’ve actually been arresting David Cousart since he was a kid, even before the adult system keeps record.

“He's 18 years old and he's got a very lengthy, violent arrest history,” said robbery detective P.J. Wilson.

Cousart has been arrested more than 10 times in Charlotte alone for everything from breaking into cars, to stealing them, and he was even arrested after a police chase and standoff that ended at a house where he was hiding.

“He's becoming more violent over time,” said VCAT officer S.R. Page.

Just a week and a half ago, on March 13, police say Cousart and two other suspects broke into a home on Oakshire Circle and held a family at gunpoint.

The family says a young mother was holding her 6-month-old and Cousart put a gun to her head, then grabbed the baby while he and the other two men robbed them, then shot one of the men in the house.

“We want him in jail and we want him to stay in jail,” said Wilson.

So this time VCAT, the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team is hunting him. But so far they’re having trouble finding him.

“He has associates and family members and friends, so he’s been more difficult for us to locate,” Page said.

Page says sooner or later, someone will give him up and they’ll be there to bring him in.

If you have information on Cousart’s whereabouts, call VCAT anonymously at 704-336-VCAT.
