CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Police spent most of Sunday evening and night on the scene of two death investigations in two different parts of west Charlotte.

Homicide detectives were called to a house in the 1800 block of Oaklawn Avenue, near Beatties Ford Road, around 4:30pm after someone in the neighborhood found a woman's body behind the house. Police can't estimate how long the woman's body had been there, but say the death looks suspicious.

A group gathered in front of the house for several hours Sunday evening, concerned that the woman might be a member of their family. Word has sifted through the neighborhood about the woman's identity, and family members say they hadn't seen her in about a week. They say the woman lived "around the neighborhood," but didn't have a permanent address. They feared the worst.

"Either she overdosed on something or she was murdered," said Raymond Glover, who believes he may be the woman's uncle. "That's what I fear. This is not the only murder in my family. It's eating me up."

About 20 minutes after police responded to that death investigation, they were called to another one at the InTowne Suites on Pressley Road -- near South Tryon Street and Billy Graham Parkway.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Capt. Allan Rutledge said a hotel employee found a man unresponsive in a third-floor room just before 5pm. Medic arrived and pronounced the man dead. Police couldn't identify the man or give a cause of death, but a stretcher carrying his body was removed from the room around 11:00pm.
