Large hail damages cars, homes

CONCORD, N.C. -- Sunday’s hailstorm in Concord left its mark on cars and roofs. Reports estimate that the chunks of ice ranged from quarter-size up to a baseball.

"One, two, three,” counted dent remover Jason Phelps. “Twenty-one, 22.”

Countless dimples but no smiles from vehicle owners.

"This one (car) totaled out at $3,000 and it would take us about two days to fix,” said Phelps of Dent Wizard.

Seconds of hail means a couple of months worth of work for Phelps and his team.

“Right now we’re looking at 1,000 claims and it’s probably going to get busier,” Phelps added.

Roofers, too, were busy Monday surveying damage.

"Some roofs will not have any hail damage at all depending on age and the type of shingles they have,” said roofer Raymond Keasler.

Sean Rickard's roof is no longer picture perfect.

"We have a lot of bad spots on the roof that we need to get looked at,” said Rickard. “Last night it started pouring in the garage and in the patio."

For good measure, Rickard is getting multiple opinions.

"About two or three estimates to make sure you're getting the right people to do the right work for the insurance reasons,” he said.
