John Michael Revels

FORT LAWN, S.C. -- The Fort Lawn Police Department isn't a big department, and it's not a fancy police department.  But it is the governing force for the small South Carolina town.

That is why so many in the area are shocked by the arrest of the town's police chief, John Michael Revels.

On Wednesday, SLED investigators arrested Revels and charged him with stealing about $100 from a victim during an investigation in Great Falls, South Carolina in March of 2007.  Revels was the police chief in Great Falls at the time of the alleged incident.

No one answered the door at Revels home in Great Falls, and very few neighbors were willing to talk about the accusations.

Scott Case, who worked with Revels in Great Falls, told us he has a hard time believing the accusations.  Case said Revels was a good leader and taught him how to be a better officer.

The charge against Revels is a misdemeanor.
