10:14 PM EDT on Saturday, June 7, 2008
CHARLOTTE, N.C.--A man sent the North Carolina Highway Patrol into a slight chase Saturday afternoon down I-85. The suspect drove past a trooper, when the trooper noticed the suspect was not wearing a seatbelt. The trooper attempted to pull the individual over, but he kept going. Eventually the drive sped upwards of about 100 miles-per-hour. The driver finally stopped after hitting a white Acura that was stopped at the intersection of I-85 and Freedom Drive. His car then went off the road and he fled. A K-9 unit was brought in to search for the suspect. He was located in a vacant house a short distance away from the crash scene. The suspect was wearing an electronic monitoring device on his ankle. That driver has been charged with failure to stop for a Blue light and siren, wreckless driving, Felony hit and run, and not wearing a seatbelt. He also had a number of other traffic violations. Police have not release the driver’s name at this point.
