CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Police say an aggressive driver died after crashing into the back of a CATS bus.
They also say it appears 38 year-old Chad Everette Haynes was speeding and swerving in and out of traffic.
Haynes DMV record shows convictions for driving with a revoked license.
Anthony Bowden couldn’t help but stop and look.
"There is no motor on the truck any more, the truck is bent in half and everything,” he said.
The Chevy Suburban’s front end was crumpled like an accordion after barreling into the back of a CATS bus.
"He had to be going 100 miles an hour the way it looks,” Bowden said.
"It doesn’t make sense to me.”
Police say Haynes, wove in and out of traffic for about two miles before the crash.
Moments before, police say Haynes forced his way from the middle lane into the right lane.
"Striking the smaller SUV on its left side knocking it over to the sidewalk,” said CMPD Captain Roderick Golding.
Then, Haynes slammed into the bus.
Police don't know where he was going - or what the rush was.
Neighbors watched investigators re-create the wreck to see how fast Haynes was going.
"It's pretty stupid, he looked like he didn't hit the brakes at all,” said Monty Bass, who watched police investigate the crash.
"It's sad that it happened, but you have to take the consequences of your actions sometimes."
"It makes me want to keep doing what I'm doing now – walking,” Bowden said.
Police say Haynes was not wearing his seatbelt.
He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Four people on the CATS bus ended up in the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
