Search for Sun-drop gunman intensifies 7:15 AM
07:15 AM EDT on Wednesday, June 18, 2008
CONCORD, N.C. -- Police are taking new steps to put the man accused of killing two people at the Sun-drop bottling plant behind bars.
The only suspect in the case was last seen after the shooting Friday, running across Highway 3, also known as Branchview Drive in Concord.
That’s where police are continuing their search. More than 1,200 morning commuters were stopped along Branchview Drive on Tuesday morning.
“Hopefully we can get some more information from someone who was coming by and saw something,” said Deputy Chief Guy Smith of the Concord Police Department.
That’s why they focused their efforts from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. -- the same timeframe as the shooting.
City police, county deputies and state troopers all pitched in to help.
“I’m glad they’re doing everything they can to catch the guy,” says neighbor Linda Bockover.
For her and many others in the community, the shooting is still the main topic of conversation. “It’s our little quiet community and it really is scary,” explains Bockover.
And the idea of a gunman on the loose has some making changes at home.
“I was talking to a lady this morning who lives alone and she’s going to have someone move in with her because she’s scared to death,” said Bockover.
Investigators say the canvassing Tuesday morning is already producing results.
According to Smith, the department “received some information from people there on the scene who saw something, and we’re following up on that now.”
At the police department investigators are still looking for help from the public.
If you have any information, even if you think the police may already know that information you’re asked to call the Concord Police Department at 704-920-5000. Investigators say every little bit may help solve the case.
