MORGANTON, N.C. -- Signs are meant to get your attention, but one sign outside a gas station in Morganton is doing more than that -- it has a phrase that some find offensive.

The sign reads, "Piss off a gas co. Choke an Arab. Don't drive. Shop local. Thank you."

It's on Highway 18 just outside of town. The owner of the Foothills Market says he sees it as humor, and says he doesn't think the message is offensive.

But one woman told a Morganton newspaper she was shocked to see the sign and thought it stirred up racial tensions.

The owner also says no one has complained to him about it, and he says those who do have a problem with it can come right in and talk to him.
