Underage drunken driver faces charges
09:27 AM EDT on Thursday, July 2, 2009
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- An underage drunken driver who crashed his car Thursday morning will face multiple charges when he gets out of the hospital, the North Carolina Highway Patrol says.
Troopers tell NewsChannel 36 that Scott Matthew Dauss, 20, of Charlotte, was trying to use the ramp from Mallard Creek Church Road to Interstate 85 northbound when his pickup truck went off the roadway. It then traveled about 134 feet down a hill and slammed into a tree. A passerby spotted the vehicle around 1:20 a.m. and called police.
According to troopers, Dauss was not wearing his seatbelt and hit his head on the windshield, but he will be OK. They say he obtained alcohol using a fake ID.
