Liberty the eagle takes off on Independence Day
11:52 AM EDT on Sunday, July 5, 2009
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C.-- It was a very patriotic send-off on this Independence Day weekend. The Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville released a bald eagle back into the wild Saturday. The American eagle, appropriately named "Liberty", had been at the center since Memorial Day recovering from a wing injury. On Saturday morning, Liberty's rehabilitative handlers found she was strong enough to be set free. She spread her wings and soared away from the Duke Energy Explorium with many folks dressed in red, white and blue.
