TAYLORSVILLE, N.C.-- A woman's body in the trunk, police say a Taylorsville couple is now facing murder charges after being pulled over for speeding on I-77 in Virginia.

Police say Jerry and Lisa Damron actually argued with the woman - a friend - at their Taylorsville house -- Shot and killed her, stuffed her in a blanket in the back of the van, then hit the road..

You just don't hear this every day.

"It's crazy," said Marquis Shuford, who lived next door to the Damron's.  "It's kind of scary."

Police say the couple shot 42-year-old Kelly Culley several times.

Larry York was a good friend and said, "Yanks my heart, It’s just sad, real sad."

He says Culley worked at Walmart and often hung out with the Damron's.

His girlfriend dropped her off at the Damron's hours before she was killed.

"That's the last anybody seen of her," he said.

Culley had a pretty troubled past, criminal charges dating back to 1996.

And so do the Damron's.

The Department of Social Services took their kids last year after Jerry Damron was charged in a DWI wreck that killed one of the couple’s children.

Neighbors say they told police about suspected drug activity at the house several times.

"I had a feeling there was something going on over here," said Robert Cook.

They told police about suspected drug activity at the house and this latest news.

Taylorsville Detectives were in Virginia Friday working the case.

The Damrons will come back to Alexander county to face murder charges -  depending on whether they waive extradition it could take anywhere from a few days to a month.
