HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- A former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teacher surrendered to police Wednesday after she was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a female student.
Amanda Athey, 27, was released later in the day on $4,000 bond.
The teacher is charged with three counts of indecent liberties between and teacher and a student and one count of sexual activity between a teacher and a student. All of this comes after a student's father became suspicious of his daughter's friendship with a teacher.
Athey taught English at Hopewell High School in Huntersville for three years.

Search warrants issued in Cabarrus County detail an illicit relationship between Athey and a female student at the school. They also detail e-mail and recorded phone conversations between the two, taken by the victim's father. Some of those conversations talk about how the two women had sex.
Athey has not returned our phone calls.
CMS Superintendent Peter Gorman said in a press conference Wednesday that he wants parents to feel that school is a safe and comfortable environment for their children.
“We encourage folks if you have any questions, concerns, anything, let us know,” Gorman said. “Don't wait -- let us know. Let us investigate. Let potentially law enforcement investigate. Parents, be skeptical of what your kids are doing. Question where your kids are going. Who they are with? If anything just doesn't seem right, check it out right away.”
The alleged victim's family did not want to comment, but did tell us that their student is receiving treatment after going through the ordeal.
The alleged victim's father said Athey told him she was married to a man named Cal, but the search warrants show Athey lives with a woman named Callie who is also a teacher.
Two laptops and two wedding photo albums were among the items seized by Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Deputies from Athey’s home in Harrisburg.
