06:14 PM EDT on Wednesday, September 20, 2006
An Alcohol Beverage Control officer fired his weapon during a traffic stop Tuesday night, leading to a wreck just blocks away.
The officer pulled over Jorge Marin, 16, around 11:15 p.m near the Plaza in east Charlotte.
Police said T. Lashby fired his weapon at the suspect's car after Marin tried to run him over with his car. Lashby's shots did not hit Martn, but they did break a window sending glass flying which injured Marin's face.
After the shots were fired Marin drove away toward Maywood Drive, near the Charlotte Country Club. That's where he wrecked the car allowing police to apprehend him.
Marin was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was treated and released to police, who arrested him on a slew of charges including assault with a deadly weapon on a government officer, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a firearm by a minor, resisting arrest, and speeding to elude police.
