CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Water restrictions in Mecklenburg County are being eased temporarily thanks to recent rainfall and cooler temperatures.

The Drought Management Advisory Group says the Charlotte area received about 15 inches of rain over the past two months.

As a result, the Charlotte City Manager on Wednesday authorized a temporary amendment to water restrictions for customers served by Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities.

Residents can now water lawns two days a week, instead of one.

Customers with odd-numbered addresses can water on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Even-numbered addresses can water on Thursdays and Sundays.

Residents can also wash cars and fill pools according to the same schedule.

Official say while conditions have improved, it will still take a long to time before things are back to normal. 

"It's easy to see the greening of the grass and the wet driveway, but the groundwater is depressed and it takes a significant amount of rainfall to get that groundwater up," said George Galleher with Duke Power.        

These water restrictions are temporary and will expire on Nov. 30.
