Man arrested for trying to pull over officer 7:54 AM
07:54 AM EDT on Thursday, October 11, 2007
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- If you plan on impersonating an officer, it's best not to try and pull over a real police officer. That's advice one man could have used, since he was arrested overnight for attempting just that.
An off-duty officer said he was driving home on Interstate 85 around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when a pick-up truck came up behind him and turned on a set of blue lights. The off-duty officer pulled over, and the truck pulled in behind him and then took off past him.
The officer followed the vehicle until patrol officers were able to stop the suspect. The driver and his friend were arrested on Yuma Street in East Charlotte.
Stephen Hartman and Christopher Duncan
Stephen Hartman, 20, the driver, was charged with impersonating an officer, operating a vehicle with blue lights and carrying a concealed weapon. The passenger, Christopher Duncan, 19, was charged with resisting an officer.
We stopped by Hartman’s home in Davidson. A woman who answered the door would only say that Hartman will be in court Thursday with his father. Hartman and Duncan are both out of jail on bond and are scheduled to go before a judge Thursday afternoon.
