Man shot, boards plane for Charlotte 7:17 AM
07:17 AM EDT on Monday, October 22, 2007
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man on an arriving flight from Tampa Saturday night didn't make his connecting flight -- because he boarded a waiting ambulance instead.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say the man told them he was shot during a domestic dispute, but boarded the plane anyway. Police say the plane was headed to Albany, New York, with a layover in Charlotte.
During the 90-minute flight, he told a flight attendant that he had been shot and asked for a Band-Aid -- but he wanted to continue on to his final destination.
Fearing another "final destination" for the man, Medic responded and took him to Carolinas Medical Center, where his condition is unknown as of late Saturday night.
Medic said the man's condition was "life-threatening," but video aired on WCNC showed him smiling as he was being wheeled out of the airport on a stretcher.
The whole story has some passengers a bit uneasy.
“How did he manage without any kind of medical supervision?” said Carol Maynard. “That’s bizarre.”
“It’s very unusual, I’ve never heard anything like that before,” said Albert Harris. “It’s only in the movies, maybe it’ll make a good movie.”
Police have not released the man’s identity or his whereabouts.
It’s also unclear how the man got through airport security in Tampa.
