Driver may face charges in death of 2 bikers 7:21 AM

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The woman who investigators say hit and killed two bicyclists during a charity ride could be charged in the next two days after they complete their investigation.
The driver is from Greensboro and was in a 2006 Chrysler SUV. The Highway Patrol is looking into whether speed, visibility, distraction and alcohol could be factors.
Lee Anne Barry, 43, of Waxhaw died from the crash. She and Thomas Hoskins were riding along Highway 521 in Lancaster County when the accident happened Sunday afternoon. A third rider was a short distance behind.
Lee Anne Barry came a long way from a girl in a wheelchair to a woman biking across the United States four times. She spoke to kids about brain injuries and helmets along the way. It was a brain injury from getting hit by a car as a child that put her in that wheelchair in the first place.
"The way she turned out with her life is a miracle, a real miracle,” said husband Ben Barry.
He rode with her on those four cross-country trips. Together they raised thousands of dollars for brain injury awareness and had a blast doing it.
Sunday, Ben Barry drove ahead in their van then rode back down Highway 521 so they could finish the ride together. He stopped to fix his gears.
"This lady says ‘You better be careful, some riders have been hit.’ I knew immediately. So I jumped back on my bike and went ripping down there and it was the worst," Ben Barry said.
All these years later, she suffered another car accident and another head injury.
"Massive injuries all over, broken bones all over,” Barry said.
She died Sunday at Carolinas Medical Center.
For someone who had come so far in life and on this 4,000 mile ride, Lee Anne Barry had only 27 miles left to go.
A police escort was going to take Lee Anne Barry from Waxhaw to Charlotte.
