Get cash for old electronics

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Getting green for being green. An online recycling program gives you money for your old printer, digital camera and other gadgets.

Desktop computers, laptops, digital cameras, mp3 players and gaming systems. They’re all worth some green.

“This is a way to help customers get some money back and help the environment with recycling,” said Truett Hepp, store manager at a Charlotte area Office Depot.

Office Depot is one of the retailers participating in an online service that gives you money in the form of a gift card in exchange for trading in your old electronics. Users can get anywhere from $10 to a couple hundred dollars for their equipment.

Go to econewonline.com . The site will tell you what the estimated trade in value of the product will be. After that, the system emails you a UPS prepaid postage label so you can send the item to the recycling center at no cost.

“This morning we did a Nintendo Wii,” Hepp said. “It was with original packaging, contents, cables and cords. The credit was $160.”

You can use the Office Depot gift card to purchase another gift card like Lowes, i-Tunes or Visa.

“You can use it on anything in the store,” Hepp said.
