Romancing a driver

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Ladies of all ages are paying attention to the young, hot and single NASCAR drivers like Kasey Kahne, Dale Earnhart, Jr. and Carl Edwards.

“The girls not only like (Carl Edwards’) backside, they like his front side as well,” said Liz Allison, author of “The Girl’s Guide to Winning a NASCAR Driver”. Her book is tongue-in-cheek at nabbing the driver of your dreams. It’s a follow up to her first book, “Girl’s Guide to NASCAR”. What’s the appeal of a NASCAR driver?

“Women always love men in uniform. The guys are cute, they're single, they’re successful and women love that,” she said.

Allison is a racing veteran. She is a television correspondent for NASCAR Next Cup events and hosts the NASCAR radio show. But, Allison says you’ve gotta know it’s hard work dating and marrying a driver. The drivers agree.

“My wife and I have been married 15 years,” said Jeff Burton. “She'll tell you a lot of times she comes second. The racing comes first and it’s not an easy way to date someone or be married to someone.”

But remember before the marriage or even the date, you’ve gotta actually meet the guy. Allison lists the top places to meet a driver, including several in Charlotte.

“There're a lot of restaurants, nightclubs even grocery store listings in this area,” she said. And another good tip she says? Find out the chiropractor your driver goes to.

Allison says a lot of the drivers work out the kinks on Mondays. But, wherever you meet your driver, Allison says make sure you don’t come on too strong.

“The guys have a radar,” she explained. “They know which ones are the pit lizards.”

For novices, driver Kenny Wallace was kind enough to explain.

“When a girl comes in the pits dressed like a hoochie mama,” Wallace said of a pit lizard.

We also asked Kasey Kahne on how not to be a pit lizard.

“Trying to stay with one driver rather than all the drivers. That’s probably a pit lizard,” he said.

And when you get the date, where will you go?

“Of Course, to the race track,” said Allison. “The guys also love to go to movies. They love to go to other racing venues … there's always a cookout and hanging out with the crew.”

Kahne says for a good date, he likes to keep it low key.

“I just kind of relax, get a good dinner and have a drink and head back to her house and watch TV,” he said.

So single girls - put it in gear - you've got the green flag. But remember “There's no money back guarantee,” said Allison.
