Students arrested for plotting school attack, police say
05:17 AM EST on Wednesday, November 16, 2005
Two students were arrested on conspiracy charges after police say they
planned a Columbine-like plot at a Mecklenburg County private school.
Officers were called to Bible Baptist Christian School on Margaret
Wallace Road Oct. 24.
Police sources said the two 15-year-old students were plotting a
Columbine-style murder plot and they targeted both teachers and students.
Bible Baptist is a small private school with only about 130 kids.
Officers said it was a fellow student who turned the students in. The
students, who have not been identified because they are juveniles, were
arrested Oct. 25 and are still in police custody.
School leaders said a gun was not on campus. Police said the students
didn't have one, but were making a serious attempt to buy one.
It's what no one at Bible Baptist Christian School can figure out.
“You don't expect that in any school, much less one that's Bible-based,”
basketball coach Thomas Sparks said.
Pastor Ron Allen said he didn't know how many people were targeted or if
the students created a "hit list." Pastor Allen said he's not aware of
any specific instances or confrontations that would have led to the
threats.
Police said the students did get into some minor trouble at the school
last year.
The two 15-year-old students have been charged with conspiracy. A
hearing is set for Nov. 17 in juvenile court and an arraignment is set
for Nov. 29.
Police do not think that this was some type of idle threat. They believe
people would have gotten hurt if they had not stopped the two students.
