Teen accused in school attack to remain in custody

6NEWS Police said two students at Bible Christian were attempting to buy a gun.
A teenager accused of plotting to kill classmates in what police call a Columbine-like attack will spend the Thanksgiving holiday in a juvenile detention facility instead of at home with his family.
The teenager, who has not been identified because he is a juvenile, is one of two teens arrested last month for conspiracy to commit murder after police said they uncovered a plot to shoot teachers and classmates at Bible Baptist Christian School.
One of the teens appeared in court Thursday and a judge decided he will stay in a juvenile detention facility until his next court appearance Nov. 29.
The teen’s defense attorney said the boy is at no risk to himself or others and is on medication. The judge reviewed a report from a psychiatrist and said there were some troubling things in it. The judge, who said he was concerned for the safety of the juvenile and the public, said the boy will remain in custody. The judge would like to see a case plan from a mental health expert before releasing the teen.
Police said the two 15-year-old students didn’t have a gun, but they were making a serious attempt to buy one and police said if they hadn't stopped this plot it's likely people would have been hurt.
The defense attorney argued Thursday the plan was just talk and there was no intention of actually carrying it out.
Detective Randy Call, the lead detective on the case for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, said he could not go into detail, but said it was more than talk.
