Train carrying coal derails

NEAR MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. -- A train derailed in Gaston County Wednesday morning, spilling coal and sending eight cars off the tracks.

The train headed to a Duke Energy station at the Catawba/Iredell County border.

Around midnight the train derailed near Highway 273 near Hartis Way in eastern Gaston County, 20 miles from its destination.

Video from AirStar 36 shows at least seven cars off the track.

No one was hurt, but the derailment caused quite a mess.

Crews were on scene trying to upright the cars and clean up the coal.

CSX, which operates the railroad track, is investigating.
