Parents scour town for hot gift: Nintendo Wii 7:27 AM
07:27 AM EST on Thursday, December 6, 2007
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Parents desperate to get their kids the hottest toy of the season are spending the night in parking lots, driving all over town, and working the Internet to get a shot at purchasing a Wii game system by Nintendo.
The popular interactive video game is sold out all over the country, but each week retailers are getting a few more packages of the popular Wii.
“I just want everyone to be happy on Christmas morning,” said one mom, who asked not to be identified. She was a lucky secret Santa and managed to score a Wii at a Charlotte GameStop Store. Other parents got lucky at a Wal-Mart in South Charlotte when the store manager announced they had 21 of the games just delivered.
“Everyone started running,” said another mom, who also wants to remain anonymous. “The key is they’re in boxes of three. Multiples of three, so the important numbers are three, six, nine.”
Retailers say they don’t know when they’ll get their next shipment, because Nintendo doesn’t tell them. Right now employees of stores all over South Charlotte say they don’t have any of the Wiis.
But one employee told us he’s taking about a call a minute from parents hoping to score the Wii in time for Christmas morning.
