Carjackings reported in Wilmore, University City

11:03 AM EST on Friday, December 26, 2008

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a pair of reported carjackings overnight -- one in the Wilmore community, just south of uptown; and the other in the University City area.

No injuries were reported, but the victims had guns pointed at their heads.

The first case happened about 9:30 p.m., in the 1600 block of South Mint Street, in the Wilmore neighborhood.

A man told police that he and a friend had left their car to buy a drink at a convenience store. When they returned, they found a suspect inside their vehicle. The suspect pointed a handgun at the driver's head and ordered him to turn over the keys and get out of the car.

The suspect drove off in the white 1997 Kia Sophia, with N.C. license tags KVW-6352.

The second case happened about 2:20 a.m., not far from the UNC Charlotte campus. A woman told police that she was in the parking lot in the 9500 block of University Terrace Drive, talking on her cell phone and getting something out of her trunk. She said a man approached her, pointed a gun at her head, and pushed her to the ground.

She said the suspect then took items from her pockets and drove off in her car, a burgundy 1993 Toyota Camry, with N.C. tags XXE-3451.

Police got a good description of the suspect in that case. He was described as a very think black male, about age 25, 6 foot 3 tall. He was wearing a black hoodie, dark pants and had a goatee.

Anyone spotting these vehicles or with information in the two cases is asked to call Crime Stoppers, 704-334-1600.
