6NEWS This husband was caught on Valentine Day 2004 allegedly heading off to a mountain retreat with his lover.
For all the hopeless romantics, this may be hard to hear, but Valentine's Day is one of the busiest days for private investigators. They said if someone is cheating Valentine’s Day is a good day to catch them.
Many private investigators said their work load doubles on Valentine's Day. That's because if you follow a cheater, there's a good chance that sometime on Valentine’s Day they’ll hook up with their lover on the side.
R.J. Provost is a private investigator and 50 percent of his work involves catching cheaters.
"There will usually be contact made on a special day like Valentine's Day," Provost said.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, video can be priceless. One cheating husband was caught in the act.
"They loaded up her car and drove up to the mountains, checked into a small lodging place to enjoy a Valentine's getaway," Provost said.
Then there's the paper trail. Checking credit card statements for flowers and gifts ordered, but never received.
So are there ever times when a suspicion turns out to be nothing more?
"We followed one who was working a second job to make money for the wife," Provost said.” So sometimes, yeah, it has a good ending... rarely."
6NEWS also talked with the owner of KMS Investigations. He said Valentine's Day and Christmas are the busiest days. He said out of all of his infidelity cases across the country last year, 80 percent were proven.
