Foamy mess at Hendrick hanger 1:46 PM
01:49 PM EDT on Tuesday, August 29, 2006
CONCORD -- Maintenance workers at Hendrick Motorsports have a foamy mess to clean up at the company’s airline hanger after the building's fire extinguishing system activated.
The foam covered Hendrick aircraft inside the hanger at Concord Regional Airport and workers used fans, shovels and cardboard boxes to push the foam out.
The building holds about 1,200 gallons of the foam and firefighters estimated that 500 to 700 gallons of the foam discharged.
The foam does not pose any environmental impact and can be dissipated with water, firefighters said. Firefighters have not determined how the system was tripped.
The aircrafts were not damaged.
