6NEWS Drivers can expect the Highway Patrol to keep an extra close eye out this week.
North Carolina’s Highway Patrol will be patrolling Interstate 77 this week in search of aggressive drivers.
Highway Patrol said the majority of accidents occurring on state roads come from aggressive drivers and will combat aggressive driving through this speed reduction campaign. The campaign will take place in Mecklenburg, Iredell, and Surry counties.
Troopers will be targeting aggressive drivers, identified as those who flagrantly violate the law. This includes, but is not limited to, drivers who speed excessively, follow too closely, make erratic lane changes, and engage in other forms of reckless endangerment.
Highway Patrol will be using Camaros, marked, and unmarked cars to aid in this effort.
In addition, patrolmen will be enforcing the “Move Over” law which requires motorists to reduce their speed and keep a lane clear for emergency vehicles.
The campaign began Monday and will continue through Friday at midnight.
