1 person killed in crash in NE Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A fatal accident shut down a road in northeast Charlotte Thursday evening.

According to MEDIC, one person was  killed when their vehicle overturned just after 6 in the 700 block of Pavilion Boulevard in northeast Charlotte, near the PNC Music Pavilion.

Police say 20-year-old Haylee Christine Hilton drove her 2013 Hyundai Sonata off the right side of the roadway and into a culvert; the vehicle went airborne and came to rest upside down.

Police say Hilton was not restrained and became entrapped in the vehicle.

Hilton was pronounced deceased on the scene by MEDIC.

CMPD says speed appears to be a contributing factor.

In an earlier version of this story, it was reported that two people were killed in the collision; MEDIC has since corrected that information.
