CMPD: Pedestrian dies after being struck by 2 vehicles

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police is investigating after a pedestrian died after being struck by two vehicles Wednesday morning in east Charlotte.

Just after 11:30, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 5600 block of Albemarle Road. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the victim, Dennis Junior Dortch, in the roadway with injuries sustained from being struck. Dortch was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that Dortch was last seen running on Reddman Road and was hit by a 2008 Honda Civic on Albemarle Road. Investigators say he was hit in the right lane of Albemarle Road and landed in the left lane and was hit by a Dodge Caravan.

CMPD says that both drivers stopped at the scene and had a steady green light for their direction of travel. Police say that the preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol, drugs, and speed were not factors in the crash.

The driver of the Honda Civic was charged with driving with a revoked license and an expired registration.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call CMPD’s crash investigation unit at 704-432-2169.
