Flammable substance spilled on I-85

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. -- A pickup truck lost its load Monday night, leaving asphalt sealant strewn across I-85.

NCDOT closed the southbound lanes of I -85 near Little Rock Road Monday evening after a pickup truck towing a trailer with asphalt sealant spilled its cargo across all five lanes following a three-vehicle crash.

Authorities say asphalt sealant is extremely flammable, and as such, an emergency response team was dispatched to clean up the spill. The Environmental Protection Agency also responded.

Traffic was diverted around the scene during cleanup; the roadway reopened around 5 a.m.

It's not yet clear if there were any injuries.
