CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A major bridge and road project is opening Tuesday in Charlotte. It's the I-85 South bridge, connecting University Research Park and the future CATS Blue Line extension.
This is just one of the projects included in the 2014 Community Investment Plan, the $816.4 million plan, designed to meet the needs of a growing community.
“The community investment plan really focuses on three areas,” says City of Charlotte CFO, Randy Harrington. “One, livability, second is getting around the city, and third is supporting job growth.”
This bridge is just another piece to that puzzle, the $17 million structure, paid for by voter-approved bonds.
Along with the obvious new route, it’ll also help break up traffic, pushing it away from City Boulevard and Harris Boulevard.
