1 killed, 13 injured in CATS bus crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A portion of Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood was shut down Saturday after an accident involving a CATS bus and multiple vehicles.

CMPD says Karen Frierson was driving a 2011 Ford Escape when she appeared to have a medical event and struck the back of another car in the 900 block of Central Avenue. Police say that Frierson's vehicle continued forward and struck the rear of a CATS bus that was stopped at the intersection of Central Avenue and Louise Avenue. 

According to CMPD, 13 people were on the bus when it was hit. Frierson was taken to CMC-Main where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Two passengers on the bus were taken to CMC-Main for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
