Passenger in drunk driver's car killed in crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A woman was killed in a car accident Friday afternoon when the driver of the car she was the passenger of ran past a stop sign and was hit by an oncoming car.

Wendy Stokes, 31, was riding in the front passenger seat of a Nissan Sentra when the driver, Isaac Vonzell Woodall, 57, failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection of Freedom Drive and Thriftwood Drive. 

Woodall drove into the intersection where an oncoming car was traveling west on Freedom Drive. After the crash, both cars lost control and went off the roadway. 

Stokes was ejected from the car, as she was not wearing her seatbelt. MEDIC pronounced her dead at the scene.

Woodall was also not wearing his seatbelt. He was found to be impaired and arrested for DWI and Felony Death by Motor Vehicle. 

The driver of the other vehicle was wearing her seat belt but sustained minor injuries.
