Crash takes out power lines, shuts down South Blvd

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police has shut down a busy section of South Boulevard after an accident took down power lines Friday morning.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers responded to an accident in the 4200 block of South Boulevard, between Scaleybark Road and East Woodlawn Road, a little after 6 a.m. Officers on the scene shut down the road and began directing traffic around the accident.

Traffic signals at several intersections along South Boulevard were disabled, including Clanton Road and Ole Pineville Road.

Medic said one person was taken to Carolinas Medical Center.

Duke Energy reported over 1,000 power outages as a result of the crash. Crews on the scene were able to restore power to the majority of customers by 8 a.m. Duke estimates that it will be noon or 1 p.m. before all work is complete and South Boulevard is re-opened.
