Who should replace Matt Lauer as host of The Today Show?

With NBC News' decision to fire Today Show host Matt Lauer following allegations of sexual misconduct, one of the network's signature shows is now in need of a new star.

Who might take over for Lauer, who has co-anchored Today since 1997? Let's take a look at some possibilities:

Ann Curry

Lauer's former co-host on Today, Curry left the show in 2012 in an exit that has been linked to her reported sour relationship with Lauer. The idea of Curry anchoring alongside current co-host Savannah Guthrie could be intriguing to the network given the nature of Lauer's dismissal.

Curry left NBC in 2015.

Anderson Cooper

One of the most popular television hosts in the industry, Cooper possesses both the news chops and entertainment I.Q. necessary for hosting a show as versatile as Today. It is, however, worth noting that in 2016, Cooper signed a long-term contract with his current employer, CNN, where he is the current host of Anderson Cooper 360°.

Megyn Kelly

A relatively new addition to the NBC family, Kelly reportedly signed one of the biggest deals in the industry with the network in 2016. Currently the host of Megyn Kelly Today, Kelly would bring news credibility to Today -- although some could consider the former Fox News host a polarizing personality.

Willie Geist

The current newsreader of Today -- a position Lauer once held -- Geist could be the obvious choice to replace Lauer should NBC News opt to make a more traditional, in-house hire. The 42-year-old has spent time as both a weekend anchor and fill-in co-host on the show and would make for a familiar face for Today viewers.

John Cena

Although not a traditional journalist by any stretch of the imagination, the WWE superstar has already received plenty of reps on Today filling in as a co-host over the course of the past couple of years. And while he may not necessarily bring the news credibility some would think is required to replace a broadcaster the caliber of Lauer, Michael Strahan has shown on Good Morning America that morning show anchors came come in various shapes and sizes.
