LIMA, Peru (AP) — Peru's first lady is denying any thought of following her husband to the presidency in 2016.

The 37-year-old Nadine Heredia says she is "ruling out that possibility." She says she won't try to seek court orders or take other action to overturn a ban on spouses succeeding one another in the presidency. Peru does not allow subsequent presidential terms.

Opponents of president Ollanta Humala have expressed concern that Heredia might run. Until the new remarks at a public event on Friday, she had been evasive about the issue, saying it was "not on her agenda."

Humala's popularity has been slipping recently. A poll by the GfK firm puts it at 39 percent, down 16 points from January. Heredia was liked by about half of those polled.
