HICKORY, N.C. -- It’s been a year since her death... and folks in Catawba County are still doing what they can to keep the memory of little Zahra Baker alive.

Earlier this month -- her stepmother -- Elisa Baker -- pleaded guilty to murdering the 10-year-old.

This weekend the Hickory community came together to honor Zahra's memory by holding a blood drive to help raise money for a new playground.

Donors said events like this are helping the community heal.
