CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NewsChannel 36 is working to help several nonprofits in the Charlotte area make their holiday mission possible.
The Arc of Mecklenburg County works to make sure people with developmental disabilities have some of the same opportunities as the rest of us.
"We serve people from birth through death," said Lauren Mullis with the ARC of Mecklenburg County. "You can't take a magic pill and expect the disability to go away."
At the holidays their mission is even more important.
"These folks have done nothing to deserve their plight in life and they need our assistance," said Mullis. "It is very difficult to raise a child with disabilities, with special needs."
They need volunteers to help with their Operation Santa Claus project. It helps make Christmas special for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
They're looking for people to help with purchasing items their clients need and want from their wish list. They also need people to help with shopping and wrapping the gifts.
If you can help, call Lauren Mullis with the Arc at 704-332-4535, ext. 102. For more information, click here.
