CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Farm Sanctuary is one of the nation’s largest and most effective animal rescue and protection organizations.
They have rescued thousands of animals and cared for them in the three sanctuaries they operate. Farm Sanctuary advocates for laws and policies to prevent needless suffering.
There are many “free-range” farms but unfortunately “factory farm” animals are denied fresh air, sun, wholesome food, room to move, and the freedom to exhibit their natural behaviors.
This situation is largely invisible to the public.
Our guest this morning on Larry’s Look was Gene Baur, the president and co-founder of Farm Sanctuary.
Gene talked about the situation with factory farm animals in this country and how these farm animals need the room to roam and have a way to avoid some of the terrible conditions on the factory farms.
Gene also talked about how he has been competing in marathons and triathalons, using plant foods to fuel his athletic performance. He actually finished the LA Marathon in the top three percentile of his age group.
Baur was featured in the May 2013 issue of Runner’s World Magazine.
